All systems of morality are fine. The gospel alone has exhibited a complete assemblage of the principles of morality, divested of all absurdity. It is not composed, like your creed, of a few common-place sentences put into bad verse. Do you wish to see that which is really sublime? Repeat the Lord’s Prayer.
Dantena van Torquaz is a field officer of His Imperial Majesty’s Night Watch.
Once a dashing swordsman, Dantena van Torquaz was also a member of the Westernlands’ nobility and one of the Empire’s most prized bachelors, both handsome and talented.
Following a series of wars in the West, the young Torquaz was disgraced and flayed in unknown circumstances, surviving the ashpits, a notorious dungeon, alongside thuggish soldier Sebastian Melogre.
Pardoned after the war, Torquaz swore revenge on an unnamed man and relocated at the Imperial Capital City following Sebastian Melogre as member of the Night’s Watch. Since he has brought his younger sister Sixtina with him, Dantena considers her his most precious treasure.
Vile and cynical, he worked professionally under sadistic Melogre for over a decade, breaking political schemes, religious apostates and ambitious nobles.
Currently tasked with finding the whereabouts of a mysterious serial killer by the Iron Circle itself, Torquaz is on his way, exploring the dark side of the glorious and all-mighty Empire.
Back in his prime, Dantena van Torquaz won three Gatherings in a row (twice in Winter, once in Summer), thus he did rank among the Imperial Order’ deadliest swordsmen, defeating current celebrities like Melrag of the Forest and Avalen Den. Even Gamorein, the Gathering’s Herald, admitted that Torquaz had always been on another league.
Master of the Ravenclaw style, a few remember his skill, such as Melrag who praised his rival to his young squire, Borothar, whom Torquaz sympathizes with.
Tangled with Gamorein on mysterious dealings, lord Torquaz is equally feared by the underworld and the fraudulent merchants, as a man who arrested dozens of powerful conspirators, bankrupting wealthy tycoons and leading to the execution of multiple oathbreakers.
He was Warmaster of the Keshian Conquest, whose outcome led to an Imperial dominion over new territories, and a dreadful rebellion which devastated its military and costed the lives of thousands of civilians. Framed for the loss of Thorgrim’s daughter Elena, Dantena has been torture by his own countrymen inside the Ashpit itself. Leaving unscarred as the Immortal of Shimeh, Dantena van Torquaz suspects one of his former companions to have betrayed him. His suspections target in particular a mysterious kingslayer, culprit in many crimes.
